Who are descended from God?
Hebrews 12:22-23 – “But you have come to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, who are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect…”
The scripture above speaks of an individual —“you have come” — the one, who has become part of the body of Christ—the Church of God or the Father’s House.
The other names of the Church mentioned in the verse are:
- Mount Zion,
- City of the living God,
- Heavenly Jerusalem,
- General Assembly,
- Church of the Firstborn.
The firstborn is Jesus the resurrected Christ and the Church are all individuals whose names are written or registered in heaven.
NATURE OF THE KINGDOM
In the Old Testament, we clearly see the prophets prophesying that the Messiah would rule and reign in Jerusalem. However, the nature of the Kingdom is spiritual, and so the location of the Kingdom is likewise spiritual and this creates a conflict in understanding. How can a spiritual kingdom have an earthly capital?
NOT AN EARTHLY KINGDOM
In the Lord’s prayer, we are asked to pray for the Kingdom to come on earth, as it is in heaven already. It is not an earthly kingdom, nor will it have an earthly temple, an earthly priesthood, or an earthly King. The Kingdom of God is and will be in the earth, but it will not rise up from the earth. Jesus received the Kingdom when He ascended to heaven and sat at the Father’s right hand. The Church of Jesus Christ is a city that has come down from heaven.
VISIONS IN THE SPIRIT
The book of Revelation written by the apostle John contains visions in the spirit which God showed him through an angel. As we compare the scripture above, which speaks of the great city—“heavenly Jerusalem,” we now understand, it is a term used for the Church of Jesus Christ.
John also calls, “the bride—the Lamb’s Wife.” He says that she is the heavenly Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God. Yes, we have descended from God—from the womb of the spirit, we (the church) were birthed on the day of Pentecost and are called to manifest the glory of God.
Our solutions come from heaven, from His throne where we are seated in Christ. Let us not search for solutions on the earth, but engage the spirit who possesses all solutions. Because Jesus ascended, we are in Him and rule with Him.
