1 John 5:11
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
The New Covenant
In the Old Testament, the life of the flesh was in the blood. This is true today in terms of our ‘bios’ life which is our natural life. How is the life of God given to us according to the New Covenant?
It is given to us in and through His Son. There is no way for us to receive the God kind of ‘Zoe’ life except through the Son. When God gave us His Son, He gave us all of Him. Having the God kind of life is not only a matter of receiving life but it is a matter of receiving His Christ – His Son.
All Things Given Through Him
Therefore, when our connection with Christ is short-circuited, problems emerge. Once we doubt Christ’s faithfulness and His promises, we will have problems in our thinking. Nothing is given to us apart from Christ. He gives us the fruit of the spirit with patience, meekness, and humility in Christ.
The moment we are not in right relationship with Christ, we are defeated. This is why we need a proper relationship with Christ every day. Growing in Christ means to grow in the knowledge of the true and living God and His son Jesus Christ. This growth is also called eternal life. The life of God in you as you know Him personally.
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
You can grow in eternal life by having a deep knowledge of Christ which also implies to have the mind of Christ and living by His understanding of things – His thoughts. The Lord must be the source of life for our minds so that truth is not for us either difficult or just true things, but life and power.
Christ revealed By His Spirit
There is no other way that Christ is revealed other than by His spirit. When one is born again – i.e. born from above by the spirit of the Lord, he/she is an infant in the realm of the spirit and they may not be aware of the realities of the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10
God has revealed these to us by the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
Begins With Repentance
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
It all begins with repentance. If we look at ourselves, we will not repent in our own strength. But if our eyes are turned to Christ, we will have everything. Repentance is an acceptance of an internal spiritual poverty, an acceptance of faith on God. This is true faith. We cannot hold on to righteousness, perseverance, or submission apart from Christ. Once we have Christ, we are made righteous and holy.
Born From Above
The moment we are born from above, by His Spirit, by receiving Christ by faith we have a new life in Him. It is not an old life with new doctrines, ideologies, understandings, etc. but a whole new life which is given by God Himself. Old things are passed away – the old covenant, the old mindset, the old way of living, the old kingdom, the old nature, even the old carnal man. It is new wine in new winekins.
Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into new wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
2 Corinthians 5:17-18
So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come!
And all these things are from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
New Order – New Understanding
The new life which we receive in Christ is the life of His spirit. That is precisely what followed when the Holy Spirit came in on the day of Pentecost. There was an existing order of things, but it was not leading to God’s desired result.
The Holy Spirit came, bringing the complete understanding of the heart of God – the deep things of the Lord, came and took complete charge of His church and all who came into the fellowship of the spirit were one with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 6:17
But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him.
His Divine Purpose
The Spirit of the Lord came to conform us to His divine purpose. If we continually walk after the things of the flesh which are not according to the Spirit, then we must ask the Holy Spirit to do a deeper cleansing work in us. When we experience the deep things of the Spirit of God we cannot cause any discomfort to others as this will be contrary with the indwelling Spirit. He does not want us to live a shallow life but desires that we possess and live by the inner life of God.
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called
We can conculde that the Holy Spirit came to reveal Christ and His purpose to us, and He came to live ‘within’ us to see that everything in us harmonizes to His purpose and we walk worthy of the calling to which we all have been called.
