THE HOLY SPIRIT’S WORK

Man has been able to tame every kind of animal. However, he has not been able to tame his tongue. One of the things the Holy Spirit does in your life as a Christian is to help you tame your tongue. The fruit of the spirit is also self-control.

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

You may not make spiritual progress, as you ought till you allow Him to help you tame your tongue. It does not involve how long you speak in other tongues or your status in your local church, if you are not able to control your tongue, then you are a spiritual babe.

TAME YOUR TONGUE

How does the Holy Spirit tame your tongue? He does so through you! You cannot just stay somewhere and say, “Oh Lord, please tame my tongue.” No! You will have to yield your tongue to Him. The major cause someone’s prayers are not as productive as should be is their tongues are not fully yielded to the Lord.

James 3:11 – A spring does not pour out fresh water and bitter water from the same opening, does it?

The answer to that question is definite, No! You should not use your tongue to bless God in praise and worship and at the same time speak shallow and unedifying words.

OFFENDING IN SPEECH

The mature Christian is the one who has mastered the use of his tongue and does not fail in his words. The scripture declares,

James 3:2 – “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”

The level of your spiritual development could be defined by your fashion of communication. You may have met Christians who talk foolishly, never giving any thought to the impact of what they say.

FOOLISH OR WISE WORDS

The Bible terms such people,

Proverbs 12:18 – Speaking recklessly is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing.

This scripture concludes on an informative note that the speech of a wise person will bring health to his/her hearers. Why not tame your tongue so it can bring always health and life to you and those who hear you? If you do not do this, it will be fire and a world of unrighteousness bringing destruction and chaos everywhere you go.

James 3:6 – And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.

Learn to address other people with honor, kindness, and courtesy. Learn to choose your words carefully, choose words that lift and bless.
